PHOTOGRAPHY

1995 - 1996 : Les instants détournés - 4 photos works created from 35 mm found photographs (from family souvenirs) C prints mounted on masonite boards.

1997 - 2000 : Les jardins antérieurs - 8 photomontages from 35 mm found photographs (from family souvenirs and photographs taken by the artist).

1998 - 2001 : Uncertain Landscapes - 7 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. Like the landscapes they are based on, the images from this series represent nature re-worked.

1999 - 2002 : Drift - 11 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. This series probes the edges of our cities where dehumanized places and chaotic spaces are common but often go unremarked.

2002 - 2003 : Foundations - 3 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. This series features fictitious architectures and non-places.

2002 - 2004 : Destinations - 12 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. This series presents large constructed panoramas which sow doubt about natural enchantment.

2004 - 2007 : Model Homes - 10 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. This series of fabricated houses offers a reflection on suburbia.

2004 - 2008 : Nuits Américaines, Day for night - 13 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. These disturbing landscapes reveal the results of State policies of disengagement and privatization of public institutions.

2005 - 2008 : Excavations - 11 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. This series presents amalgams of landscapes whose meanings seem to be opposite. The artist has worked from conservation sites, whose natural and human history is very rich, and then with uprooted places that evoke various forms of disappearance.

2006 : Somewhere out of a memory - 1 Photomontage created with a consumer-type digital camera. Edition of 25 created for Oakville Galleries (Canada). The territory of the city of Oakville is condensed into a single panorama to highlight urban changes.

2006 - 2007 : Être là, là bas, hors de soi - 12 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. A project created while artist-in-residence at the Wall House No. 2 of John Hejduk. The artist has created a series of images that seek to establish a resonance with the thinking of John Hejduk and especially with his conception of architecture as part of the ‘social contract'. Commissioned by Noorderlicht Photography and the Wall House No. 2 Foundation, Groningen (Holland).

2007 - 2008 : Dé-peindre Québec ou l'envers du décor - 6 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films and a consumer type digital camera. A project created while artist-in-residence at VU in Quebec City as part of the project 06 émissaires, Québec 2008. Using the remains of the old church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the artist has created photographic montages that question our relationship to memory & history and criticize the folklorization of heritage. Commissioned by Centre Vu.

2008 - 2009 : Formes de monuments
- 9 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films and a 35 mm digital camera. A project created while artist-in-residence at Contretype in Brussels - in collaboration with VOX, Centre de l'image contemporaine of Montreal. The artist looked at the phenomenon of “Brusselisation”, as urbanists call the anarchic development of cities left to the whims of real estate developers.

2008 : Oikos - 2 digital photomontages created from 120 mm films. The works were created for the Oikos exhibition at SBC Contemporary Art in Montreal, Sylvain Campeau curator. The works were created from photographs taken in a park that were then combined with elements of industrial architectures.

2008 - 2015 : Underworlds - 70 photomontages created with a 35 mm digital camera in a underwater housing. Underwater landscapes & ecosystems, various locations.

2009 : Fire with Fire – 1 photomontage created with a 35 mm digital camera. This work is related to the site-specific installation Fire with Fire. The work was created for the TV program Vente de garage realized by Claire Obscura (Bernar Hébert and Renée Claude Riendeau) on ARTV.

2010 : L'or blanc - 1 photomontage created with a 35 mm digital camera and 3D images. This work is related to the site-specific installation L'or blanc. Edition of 10 created for No.9 Contemporary Art & the Environment, Toronto.

2010 : Tabula Rasa - photomontages created from a found image (Internet) and an archival image (UQAM). The work was created for the exhibition Expansions presented at Galerie de L'UQAM, Louise Déry and Audrey Genois curators. This project takes a critical look at the destruction and gentrification of the Quartier Latin de Montréal. Collection of Galerie de l'UQAM.

2012 - 2013 : Une vie sans histoire - 16 photographs created with a 35 mm digital camera. A series created while artist-in-residence at L'Espace F, Matane (Quebec) as part the project Québec décapé. As a critic of urban planning, this project explores Quartier Dix30 in Brossard and the new suburbs around it.

2012 - 2013 : Corps étranger - 36 photographs created with a 35 mm digital camera. A project created while artist-in-residence at La Chambre, Strasbourg (France). The project documents the European Quarter in Strasbourg. Critical reflection on globalization, this project invites us to a certain mistrust of the architecture of power. Commissioned by La Chambre.

2015 - 2016 : République - 103 photographs created with a 35 mm digital camera. A project created while artist-in-residence at Diaphane, pôle photographique en Picardie (France) with Les Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie. The project looks at the aftermaths of the November 2015 Paris attacks.

2015 - 2016 : Desert Shores (Lost America) - 93 photographs created with a 35 mm digital camera. The forlorn landscapes surrounding the Salton Sea (California) are loaded with social, political, environmental and metaphoric implications.

2017 - : Dépayser (Territoires et citoyens sous haute-tension) - Current project. Using photographs taken in several regions of the province of Quebec, this work testifies to the struggles of citizens confronted with the development of the electric power industry.



VIDEO

1995 : Mine Eyes, 03:15, SD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed + master on S-VHS. A video-poem inspired by a sonnet of Shakespeare.

1996 : Passage sous zéro, 08:30, SD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed on S-VHS, 16 mm, master on S-VHS. The work explores themes such as memory, time-passing, lost and death.

1997 : Voyage d'hiver, in collaboration with Éric Raymond, 04:00, video SD, colour, stereo sound, filmed on Hi-8, master on Betacam SP. This video is inspired by the romantics Lieders of Franz Schubert, Winterreise.

1998 : Si jamais la mer, 05:20, SD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed on Hi-8, master on Betacam SP. This video reveals a paradoxical space, a hypothetical landscape. Vanishing visions, glimpses, mirages our regard is confused, submerged.

1999 : Traverse, 03:50, SD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed on Mini-DV, master on Betacam SP. This video is a dreamlike journey on a road through the night.

2000 : Vertige, 11:45, SD video, colour, stereo sound, animation created from photographs, master Betacam SP and HDCam SR. Produced from shots of an asbestos quarry, the video shows a fascination for a deserted landscape that becomes a quest for the void.

2005 : Drifting, 11:30, SD video, colour, stereo sound, animation created from photographs. No master. This animation explores the heterogeneity and rupture in today's landscapes.

2009 : Losing Ground, 13:00, HD video, colour, stereo sound, film on HDV master in HD digital file. Filmed in Quartier DIX30 in Brossard, the biggest lifestyle center in Canada, the video is a critique of urban sprawl with the resulting erosion and homogenization of the countryside.

2009 : Hindsight, 08:30, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed on HDV master in HD digital file. Filmed on Governors Island (New-York) this video is a look backstage at the American Dream.

2010 : The Fire Theft, 09:00, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and found sequence (Internet), master in HD digital file. This video explores the themes of dispossession and repression.

2010 : Private Views, 08:15, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and master in HD digital file. The video explores the themes of social inequalities, real estate speculation, and dispossession.

2012 : Uprooted, 10:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and master in HD digital file. Urban development critique, his video explores the peripheries of some North American cities.

2012 : Castaway, 14:00, soundtrack by Nicolas Bernier, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and master in HD digital file. Filmed on Staten Island (New-York) in a navy graveyard, the video navigates through troubled waters and toxic shores.

2013 : Flow, 10:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and master in HD digital file. This video probes our relation to water, underscoring both its vital importance and the troubling recurrence of environmental disasters.

2013 : Out of the blue, 01:00, video created for the 50 ans de l'art vidéo, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in Mini DV, master in HD digital file. Portrait of a woman trapped behind the screen.

2013 : Aftermaths, 14:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD digital file. The video roams through the altered landscapes of southern Louisiana, where traces of hurricane Katrina’s passage are still very much to be seen.

2014 : La saison sombre, 08:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD digital file. The video shows us devastated places and landscapes with extreme climates.

2014 : Mirages, 09:50, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD digital file. This video depicts changing landscapes and shows us the upheavals of our environments and ecosystems.

2015 : Hybris, 15:15, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD digital file. Filmed on Captiva Island (Florida) and in southern Louisiana, this video stages encounter between clashing worlds where natural and altered landscapes are enmeshed with each other.

2015 : Pulse, 03:00, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed in HD and found sequence (Internet) master in HD digital file. This short video is inspired by the student strike of spring 2015 and the social struggles associated with it.

2015 : Solastalgia, 14:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD file. Solastalgia is a concept created by environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht to define a feeling of unease tied to the upheavals and mutations we are experiencing today.

2015 : Silent Spring, 18:45, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD file. Using visual metaphors, this work alludes to the problems caused by industrialization, by evoking its impact on health, ecosystems and climate.

2016 : Desert Shores - 36:00, HD video, colour, stereo sound, filmed and master in HD file. The forlorn landscapes surrounding the Salton Sea in California seem to mirror a lost America.



SITE SPECIFIC and PUBLIC ART

2001 : Station. A meditation on transit area and changing landscapes. Photo created for a luminous billboard. The work was presented in Downtown Montreal, from 2001 to 2006, as part of the Plan Large exhibition presented by Quartier Éphémère, Darling Foundry. Inkjet on vinyl, fluorescent lamps. 211 cm X 900 cm. Commissioned by The Darling Foundry.

2002 : Refuge. This trompe-l'oeil installation is a reflection on the dispossession and the gentrification. Photo based installation in a garage from Toronto (Bloorvillage). The work was presented in ON Trespassing exhibition by Fresh Air Collective (Janet Belloto, Isabelle Hayeur, Lisa Klapstock) as part of Contact Photography Festival. Inkjet on translucent vinyl, fluorescent lamp, metal frame, 247cm X 257cm.

2004 : Issue. This trompe-l'oeil installation echoes the industrial past of the building in which it is presented. Multimedia installation presented in a former waste incinerator in Montreal as part of the festival 6e Manifestation Internationale Vidéo et Art Électronique curated by Champ Libre. 09:00 continuous loop, video made from animated photographs, stereo sound. Computer, video projector, surround sound system, motion sensor, microcontroller, 487 cm X 397 cm. Commissioned by Champ Libre.

2004 : L'île rouge (The Red Island). The harmony and the calm that emerges from this image create a contrast with the neighbourhood. Like a refuge or a sanctuary, this isolated island represents an ideal counterpart. Photo based installation in a storefront. Presented at VOX Centre de l'image contemporaine in the Red Light District of Montreal. The work was shown from may to september 2004 as part of the exhibition Awakening curated by Marie Fraser. Backlit photograph, inkjet on translucent vinyl, lamination, 132 cm X 277 cm. Commissioned by VOX Centre de l'image contemporain.

2006 : Songes. Created by photomontage, the three photographs show fictitious spaces in which interior and exterior spaces meet. Photographic triptych presented in light boxes. Permanent public artwork in the hallway of the Maison culturelle et communautaire de Montréal-Nord. Backlit photographs, polycarbonate sheets, fluorescent lights, aluminum structures. Three light boxes of: 132 cm X 282 cm X 15 cm. Commissionned by the Montréal-Nord Cultural and the Public Art Office of the City of Montreal.

2006 : Sommeil (ou les séjours sous terre). The three images show the underground landscapes of the former Miron Quarry site in Montreal, which became a dump and then a park. Photographic triptych presented in light boxes. Permanent public artwork in The Montreal Underground City, Quartier International. Backlit photographs, polycarbonate sheets, fluorescent lights, aluminum structures. Three light boxes of 176 cm X 96 cm X 24 cm. Commissioned by the Quartier International de Montréal (QIM) and the Public Art Office of the City of Montreal.

2007 : Tunnel Vision 01. This trompe-l'oeil work is a meditation on industrial architecture. Multimedia installation in an industrial building. The work was commissioned by the Netwerk CCA art center in Aalst (Belgium). The work was created in collaboration with artist Éric Raymond. Animated 3D images, 10:30 minutes playing continuously, surround sound. Computer, video projector, surround sound system, lighting system, DMX dimmer, motion sensor. Commissioned by Netwerk Centre for Contemporary Art.

2007 : Tunnel Vision 02. This trompe-l'oeil work is a meditation on industrial architecture. Multimedia installation at Trinity Square Video in Toronto presented as part of Images Festival. The work was created in collaboration with artist Éric Raymond. Animated 3D images, 10:30 minutes playing continuously, surround sound. Computer, video projector, surround sound system, lighting system, DMX dimmer, motion sensor. Commissioned by Trinity Square Video.

2007 : Untitled Legacy. This photographic panorama presents a desolate changing landscape in a gentrifying neighbourhood. Photo based installation in the storefront of the Drake Hotel (West Queen West district in Toronto). This project was created for the exhibition "Looking the other way" Mia Nielsen curator and presented during the Contact Photography Festival. Photomontage created from 35 mm digital photographs. Inkjet on vinyl canvas, UV lamination, 163 cm X 308 cm.

2010 : Fire with Fire. This trompe-l'oeil video simulates a fire in a building located in a disadvantaged neighbourhood. 3 channel HD video installation at 112 West Hastings Street, Vancouver (Downtown Eastside) presented as part of The Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, Marlene Madison curator. 15:00 minutes video playing at nightime, no sound. 3 video projectors, 3 Blu-ray players, translucent paper, mirror. Commissioned by The Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.

2010 : Perturbations. This trompe-l'oeil window shows changing landscapes in a gentrifying neighbourhood. HD video installation in an industrial building (Old City Gaz, Griffintown, Montreal) as part of the "Nuit Blanche 2010" event. Video created from still photographs. 03:00 continuous loop, 133 cm X 200 cm. Video projector, DVD player, pre-finished panelling.

2010 : L'or blanc. The video sets up a parallel between two very different worlds: dilapidated industrial structures and a beach on the Pacific Ocean. HD video installation in a former brick factory (Evergreen Brick Works, Toronto) and presented as part of the Four Directions exhibition curated by Andrea Carson. Video created from animated photographs and 3D images. 02:45 video loop, surround sound system. video projector, Blu-ray player. Commissioned by No.9 Contemporary Art & the Environment.

2011 : Infiltration. This trompe l'oeil photographic mural presents a fictional landscape in which architecture meets the little St-Pierre River, which once flowed through it. Photo-based installation created for the large showcase of the Maison de l'architecture du Québec located in the Montreal Undergound City (Quartier international de Montréal). Photomontage created from 35 mm digital photographs and 3D images. Adhesive vinyl, 345 cm x 950 cm. The work was finished but it was not presented.

2011 : Ascension. This work is a meditation on the notion of rite of passage. Multimedia installation. The soundtrack was composed by sound artist Nicolas Bernier. It was presented at the Metropolitan United Church of Toronto. The work was presented as part of Toronto's Nuit Blanche 11, Shirley Madill curator. Work playing continuously and randomly. HD video made from 3D images. Computer, video projector, surround sound system. Commissionned by Nuit Blanche Toronto.

2012 : Rising. This trompe-l'oeil installation is a reflection on non-sites and transitional spaces. Two HD video installations presented in elevator lobbies at the Denver International Airport. Video made from animated photographs and 3D images. 15:00 playing continuously. Video screens, video projectors, media players, stereo sound and subwoofer. Commissioned by the Denver International Airport.

2013 : Underworlds, Nola. Four photographs of the Underworlds series in commercial billboards. This project was realized during an artist residency at A Studio In The Woods / Tulane University. Photomontages created from photographs taken with a 35 mm digital camera and a underwater housing. Commissionned by A Studio In The Woods / Tulane University, New Orleans.

2013 : Épaves. This video shows ghostly images of shipwrecks and reveals the dark side of industrial development. HD video projection on a water screen. The work was presented on Lac des Nations in the city od Sherbrooke (Quebec) as part of the Espace Immédia Festival organized by Sporobole Art Center. HD video, 05:00 playing continuously, no sound. Commissionned by Espace Immédia Festival.

2013 : Innerland. This trompe-l'oeil installation offers a journey through a desolate industrial architecture. HD video installation in abandoned industrial building (Downtown Halifax, Canada). The work was presented at Nocturne Halifax Festival, Eleanor King curator. Video made from animated photographs and 3D images. 15:00 playing continuously, video projector, stereo sound and one subwoofer. Commissionned by Nocturne Halifax.

2014 : Murs aveugles. This work was inspired by the Occupy movement of peaceful protest and draws a portrait of our current political horizon. HD video projection presented at L'esplanade du métro Saint-Laurent in Montreal. This project was presented at la Biennale de Montréal in collaboration with the Quartier des spectacles. Video made from animated photographs and video footage. 15:00, continuously playing, non-standard video format, no sound. Commissionned by la Biennale de Montréal.

2015 : Agora. This project is a reflection on Quebec’s future in the context of the neoliberal policies we are experiencing today. 3 channels HD video projection presented in the Old Quebec City as part of Passages Insolites festival organized by EXMURO Art Publics. Video made from texts written by Normand Baillargeon, Marc-André Cyr, Véronique Laflamme, Micheline Lanctôt, Mohamed Lotfi, Ianik Marcil and Lise Payette. Commissionned by EXMURO Art Publics.

2017 : Adrift - New Water Music. HD video, colour, 20:46, created for the work New Water Music by composer Yotam Haber. Commissionned by The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, New Orleans.
